I can't speak for every drumline instructor, as many people do things differently, but one thing that I've noticed that is the same for most of us, is that you take your time.
Sure, when you're learning the music for the year, your tempo must match that of the rest of the ensemble. But, you would be surprised by the amount of people that try to play everything as fast as possible, rather than slow down and play it smooth. I'd rather hear it clean, even, and slow, than fast, choppy, and sloppy.
Just my two cents. Good luck this audition season!

Several years ago, I had written a few articles for a blog called The Drum Circle Blog. That blog is long gone, and I haven't thought about it in a long time. Recently, in a conversation, it was mentioned that perhaps I should get back into blogging. Because I'm not busy enough, I've decided that was a pretty good idea, so here I am!
I'll begin to write about all things in the world of music, giving my thoughts and opinions, and I invite all of you to get involved in the conversation.
Have a specific question or topic that you'd like me to write about? Leave me a comment below, and I'll try to get to it!
